Observation: Alex Fletcher saw the male elephant seal called Misery and a smaller female back on Great Race that morning. The female had a fresh-looking wound near her left eye. A connection to an earlier aggressive encounter was suggested by the source but was not established.

Observation: Ryan Murphy photographed a Steller sea lion pup nursing from its mother above the jetty. The same account follows the pup through subsequent disturbances, when it was seen with a shoulder wound and without its mother. Those later updates are not counted as separate encounters.
