Observation: Garry Fletcher observed a young elephant seal on Taylor Beach at about 4 pm. He identified the tagged pup as Ninene, previously observed at Race Rocks, and photographed it resting on the sand and returning from the water.

Observation: A newborn elephant seal pup, named Ninene by the observers, was seen with its mother near the helipad. The account says the pup had been born during the previous night or early that morning; 30 January is the documented observation day.
